STAR OF HOPE CHARITY BALL NOV 2016

An amazing ball to raise money for Macmillan nurses in Colchester Football stadium. Wendy Ofuasia, who is herself battling cancer, contacted us as they had been let down at the last moment. Wendy is an amazing fundraiser with her www.starofhope.co.uk charity.

We loved the challenge! Our original idea was to strewn branches across the ceiling entwined with fairy lights. However, when checking with the venue this was not agreeable for Health and Safety reasons. We therefore put our thinking caps on for the next best option. Being a charity event we wanted to keep the decoration costs as low as possible without loosing the wow!.

We came up with the idea of painting sky lanterns with trees as the lanterns were lightweight to hang from the ceiling tiles (attached with paper clips). I painted them with watercolour paints and a spray of gold paint for a shimmer.

At a cost of approx £1 each these are around 1m high so have a great impact and can be sprayed, painted etc. We found they looked more effective  hung in 3s.

Strewn with battery fairy lights bought on Ebay for only £5.99 a set for a 20 METRE LENGTH!.

Painted sky lanterns

My husband, bless him, did have to work a few evenings cutting out the paper wicks from the sky lanterns. This was not an easy task however was necessary as this was obviously a fire risk.

We then used our hand made willow trees to bend over into an arch for a grand forest entrance. Our rustic garlands to dress the bar and stairs etc. Sally and I loved dressing this job however its easy for anyone to duplicate for any event or venue.

DECORATION OF COOL BEANS CAFE, BRAINTREE

With the Star of hope charity ball in mind we had an idea on how to decorate our great friends and neighbours local cafe for Christmas.

Cool Beans cafe, in Braintree Essex, is the child of Ross and Rachel MacMillan. Cool Beans has just celebrated its 1st (Of many) successful years of trading. Incidentally it is a great new cafe and well worth a visit.

We stuck with the white theme. Dragging  twigs and branches out of hedgerows we sprayed them white with a spray can. They were attached over a washing line of twine strewn from sturdy pipework. I cut Bird outlines from white card and attached these also with twine. Together with a forest chalk painted window design, similar to below. Another beautiful transformation at a very low cost!.
